Childhood in drug hell: Kurt Cobain’s daughter reveals all
Frances Bean Cobain is the daughter of grunge icon Kurt Cobain and singer Courtney Love. But the 25-year-old has a score to settle with her famous parents.
Millions of people worship the Nirvana vocalist, revering him as a music legend who died much too young. His 25-year-old daughter will probably always live in his shadow. But unlike his fans, it's not just admiration Frances has for the deceased singer. From the beginning of her life, Frances has experienced what it's like to grow up with two drug addicts as parents.

Frances was only two weeks old when she was taken from her parents' custody out of fear that her mother had knowingly taken heroin during and after the pregnancy. It was only after a lengthy legal battle that Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love were able to regain custody of their daughter.
The last time the 18-month-old Frances saw her father was when she visited him in a rehab clinic in April 1994. One week later, the 27-year-old overdosed on heroin and shot himself.
"I don't really like Nirvana that much. I was around 15 when I realized he was inescapable. Even if I was in a car and had the radio on, there's my dad," the heiress to a $450 million fortune said in an interview with Rolling Stone. "He's larger than life and our culture is obsessed with dead musicians. We love to put them on a pedestal. If Kurt had just been another guy who abandoned his family in the most awful way possible... But he wasn't. He inspired people to put him on a pedestal, to become St. Kurt."

After the death of her father, Frances was mostly raised by her mother Courtney Love, the singer from the band "Hole." A 17-year-old Frances provided a shocking insight into what that meant while testifying against her mother in 2009. Once the proceedings were concluded, Love was prohibited from having any direct or indirect contact with her daughter. "She basically exists now on Xanax (...), sugar and cigarettes. She often falls asleep in her bed while she is smoking, and I am constantly worried that she will start a fire (which she has done at least three times) that will threaten our lives," the teenager said under oath.
"My mother is obsessed with uncovering fraud and spends much of her day raging about the fraud that has been perpetrated on her and on me. She incessantly rages about her many theories relating to the supposed incidences of 'fraud,'" Frances added. It's also been reported that the family dog died after consuming one of Love's packet of pills. The relationship between mother and daughter was at one point so tense that Frances refused to invite Love to her own wedding in June 2014, instead telling her about it after the ceremony.
However, mother and daughter have appeared close when they've been seen in public together over the past two years. Whatever caused the relationship to improve seems to be doing both the world of good.
As a painter, Frances is using much of her art to come to terms with the past, because the things that have happened cannot be undone. We leave the 25-year-old with the last words, "In reality, if he had lived, I would have had a dad. And that would have been an incredible experience."
